At the Brick, a Marriage Proposal

On a visit to see Annalyse’s grandmother in Ohio, Jose sees an old photo I took of my father and mother kissing in front of The Brick.

Jose asks if we could replicate the photo, this time with my daughter and him.

The next day Annalyse asks Grandma for the same red scarf she wore in the photo, and we drive through a cold rainy Ohio day to the tiny town of Zanesfield, the childhood home of my mom and my children. The Brick is the same place I listened to my grandfather play the banjo and married my wife, Melanie.

Cursing the rain, I shoot a few photos of Jose and Annalyse kissing, and show them in the viewfinder:

Mission accomplished, I say, starting to scurry to the warm car. “Just one more,” Jose says. Turning around, muttering under my breath, I see Jose drop to one knee.

While I scramble to take more photos, Melanie, who was in on Jose’s secret, is shooting a video on her iPhone.

I can think of no better place for the story of my daughter’s wedding to begin than with Jose’s proposal in front of The Brick.

This Saturday, Jose and Annalyse will marry. In the days leading up to her wedding, I hope to blog about the special moments and people who are coming together to help, many of those from the Fuse community. I also do so in hopes of showing potential Fuse clients how real-time, multimedia stories capture the special moments of a once-in-a-lifetime event.
